Agent - General
Beta Feature: Agent mode is currently in beta. The core functionality is ready for use, but as a major new feature, we are actively refining it based on user feedback.
Agent mode is a dedicated AI panel that can be launched from anywhere in WordPress. It brings an AI assistant directly into your workflow without leaving the current screen.
Overview
Agent mode provides a split-screen interface: chat on the left, your WordPress content on the right. If you have used tools like Lovable, Cursor, or similar AI-powered development environments, you will feel right at home. The key difference is that this runs directly inside WordPress, with full access to your admin context.
Unlike chatbots (which are public-facing), Agent mode is designed for WordPress administrators and content creators. Depending on the mode selected, it can read and modify content, execute actions, and help you work more efficiently.
Launching Agent Mode
Press Meta + Shift + L to open the agent panel from anywhere in WordPress.
On Mac, this is Cmd + Shift + L. On Windows/Linux, it is Ctrl + Shift + L.
The shortcut can be customized in settings if it conflicts with other tools you use.
The Agent Interface
When you open Agent mode, you will see:
- Chat panel (left): A conversation interface with a mode selector at the top and access to all your conversations
- Content panel (right): Your WordPress content in its normal layout
- Plugin toolbar (Plugin mode only): An additional toolbar above the content with a file browser and code editor
The content panel shows your current WordPress screen. The AI can see and interact with what you are working on depending on which mode is selected.
How Modes Work
Different modes give the AI different capabilities:
- Chat mode: Simple conversation without tools or modifications
- Block Editor mode: Full access to read and edit your blocks through a virtual file system
- Plugin mode: Create and edit WordPress plugins with a file browser and code editor
- Custom modes: Your own configurations with system instructions and optional form field mapping
Some modes provide the AI with a virtual file system that represents your content. For example, in Block Editor mode, each WordPress block becomes a JSON file that the AI can read and modify. This allows precise, surgical changes to your content.
When to Use Agent Mode
Agent mode is useful for:
- Content editing: Have the AI help rewrite, expand, or improve content while viewing the live editor
- Block editor assistance: Get help with Gutenberg blocks, layouts, and formatting
- Plugin development: Create and modify WordPress plugins through conversation
- Repetitive tasks: Set up custom modes for workflows you perform frequently
- Learning: Ask questions about WordPress while working, with the AI seeing your actual context
Agent vs Chat vs Chatbots
SleekAI offers three ways to interact with AI:
- Chat: A standalone conversation interface in the WordPress admin. Good for general questions and brainstorming
- Chatbots: Public-facing widgets embedded on your site for visitors. Configured with specific knowledge and displayed based on conditions
- Agent: An overlay panel launched from anywhere in WordPress. Has access to tools that can read and modify your content based on the selected mode
