GeoDirectory places need their own social cards

GeoDirectory stores each place as a custom post type, by default gd_place, with detail fields in a per-CPT details table such as wp_geodir_gd_place_detail. That table holds the address, latitude, longitude, phone, email, website, opening hours, and any custom fields added through the GeoDirectory custom fields manager. Categories are a hierarchical taxonomy with their own colors and icons. The default OG image is the directory's site logo, identical across the climbing gym, the bakery, and the dentist, which makes every shared link look like every other shared link.

SleekPixel reads the GeoDirectory detail table and the place taxonomy and composites them into a per-place card: business name as the headline, primary category as a colored tag, the average rating as stars, the featured photo as the hero, opening hours collapsed to a friendly Open now or Closed badge, and the address as a footer line. Editors and submitting users do not change their workflow, the card just appears on save.

For map-heavy directories, the place's latitude and longitude can render as a small map crop next to the photo, so the preview shows where the place is, not just what it looks like.

Workflow

From GeoDirectory place to social card

1

Map GeoDirectory fields

Connect template slots to the place title, category taxonomy, rating, primary photo, address, latitude, longitude, opening hours, and any custom fields registered with GeoDirectory.
2

Scope to the place post type

Apply the template to gd_place or any additional GeoDirectory CPT registered on the site. Multi-CPT directories can run different templates per CPT, scoped by category if needed.
3

Editor saves the place

On save or hours change, SleekPixel renders the card and writes the og:image meta into the place head along with Open Graph and Twitter card tags.
4

Place gets shared

DMs, social posts, and search results preview the place with its name, category, rating, photo, and Open or Closed badge, branded for the directory.

Comparison

Default GeoDirectory share image vs SleekPixel for GeoDirectory

Same site logo on every place

  • Every GeoDirectory place URL previews with the same site logo
  • Category color and icon never reach the share preview
  • Open now and Closed status stay buried on the place detail page
  • Primary photo from the gallery never appears in the thumbnail
  • Manual cards in Canva for each new place added each week

SleekPixel

  • Reads wp_geodir_*_detail tables for address and meta
  • Opening-hours field collapses to a live Open now or Closed badge
  • Category color and icon drive the card accent automatically
  • Latitude and longitude render an optional map crop in the card
  • Custom GeoDirectory fields are first-class template fields

Features

What SleekPixel gives you for GeoDirectory

Address and map crop

The place's address, latitude, and longitude render in the card. The map crop is optional but useful for directories where location is the main signal, so the share preview shows both the place and where it sits.

Open now from real hours

GeoDirectory's opening-hours field is evaluated at render time against the place's time zone, so the badge shows Open now or Closed accurately, and reshared links reflect current state on regeneration.

Category-driven styling

Each GeoDirectory category can carry its own accent color and icon, which the card picks up automatically, so restaurants, fitness studios, and shops each have a recognizable look across the directory.

Use cases

Where GeoDirectory directories benefit most

City and regional guides

Neighborhood guides depend on shares between residents. Per-place cards turn every share into a recognizable preview of the actual business, with its category, photo, and rating.

Travel directories

Travelers share recommendations through DMs and group chats. A card that confirms the place name, the category, and a photo converts those messages into clicks at much higher rates than a logo.

Featured-listing programs

Paid featured placements deserve a visible badge in social previews. The Featured flag on a place renders as a top-right badge so monetized listings stand out at share time.

The bigger picture

Why GeoDirectory places reward per-URL images

Directories survive on shareability and on visitors recognizing what they are about to click on. GeoDirectory makes it easy to capture every detail of a place, from the opening hours to the latitude and longitude, but the default social share collapses all of that to a single repeated thumbnail of the directory's logo. The result is that every shared link looks identical, which trains regular visitors to ignore previews and lowers click-through on social by a meaningful margin.

SleekPixel turns each place into a card that previews as itself, with the photo of the venue, the category tag in its own color, a live Open now or Closed badge, and the rating in stars. Featured listings, often the directory's main revenue line, finally get a visible boost in the share preview. None of this requires design time past the initial template, which means a directory with three hundred places gets three hundred unique social cards for the cost of one plugin, and adding place three hundred and one takes no extra effort.

Questions

Common questions about SleekPixel for GeoDirectory

Yes. The plugin reads the per-CPT detail tables, by default wp_geodir_gd_place_detail and any additional CPTs you have registered, plus the place taxonomy. Custom fields registered through the GeoDirectory field manager are all template-accessible.

The opening-hours field is evaluated at render time against the place's time zone. The badge picks Open now, Closed, or a time-specific state like Opens at 9 AM, and the result refreshes whenever the card is regenerated.

Yes. Latitude and longitude from the GeoDirectory detail row drive an optional map crop in the card layout. The crop can use a static map provider or a pre-rendered tileset bundled with the template.

GeoDirectory supports registering additional CPTs beyond gd_place. SleekPixel can run different templates per CPT or share one template across them, depending on how distinct the directories should look in social.

Yes. GeoDirectory exposes the Featured flag on each place, and the template can show a Featured badge in the card so monetized listings get a visible signal in the social preview, not only on the detail page.

Yes. The aggregated star rating and review count from the GeoDirectory reviews extension render in the card. Places without reviews fall back to a neutral state instead of a misleading zero rating.

No. Rendering happens after the save returns, typically in two to five hundred milliseconds. Bulk regeneration, used when the template changes, runs in the background without blocking the admin or the front end.

Translation plugins like WPML and Polylang give each language version of a place its own URL. SleekPixel renders the card per language, so a German listing previews with German copy and accents are consistent across languages.
