SleekView Charts for Stream

Stream writes records to wp_stream and pivots context into wp_stream_meta. SleekView Charts groups those rows by connector, user, action, and time so multi-connector activity reads as a real dashboard.

SleekView Charts dashboard for Stream

Stream records, finally visual

Stream is a faithful recorder: posts, plugins, themes, users, options, taxonomies, comments, and any custom connector all land in wp_stream with their context in wp_stream_meta. The default UI is good at browsing one record at a time, but the questions a team actually asks at standup are aggregate: which connector is busiest, which user is producing the most activity, how do deletes trend during release weeks.

SleekView Charts builds those answers directly on the Stream tables. A Pie of connector mix sits next to a Bar of top users, a Number card carries the total events for the day, and an Area chart shows daily volume so a deploy day spike is obvious in the dashboard before anyone opens a record.

Because charts read the same tables Stream populates, the dashboard always reflects the live state. No second store, no sync job, no separate aggregation table. The plugin keeps capturing events the way it always did; SleekView just exposes them as a workable dashboard.

Workflow

From Stream tables to a connector dashboard

1

Connect to wp_stream

Map wp_stream as the source and add the wp_stream_meta join. Connector, context, action, user_id, and created become first-class fields on the data source.
2

Build the four cards

Drop a Number card for total events, a Pie for connector mix, a Bar for top users, and an Area for daily volume. Each card runs its own aggregation against the same source.
3

Save and share

Save the dashboard layout. Filters by connector, action, IP, or date range apply globally so every card stays in sync.
4

Scope per role

Respect Stream's existing role configuration and gate sensitive cards behind capability checks. Network admins and per-site admins see different layouts.

Number · Default

Events today

Total Stream events recorded today across all connectors. The opening KPI for daily ops review.
Count
Pie · Donut

Connector mix

Share of activity by connector. Posts, Plugins, Themes, Users, and Options at a glance, so a sudden surge in any one stands out immediately.
Count group by connector
Bar · Horizontal

Top users

Most active accounts inside the current filter window. Spot deploy bots, busy editors, or unexpected automation patterns in one glance.

Daily volume

Stream volume per day. Release-day spikes, weekend quiet periods, and silent gaps where the logger stalled are visible without digging.

Comparison

Default Stream reporting vs SleekView Charts

Default Stream records screen

  • The records screen lists rows but does not aggregate by connector or user.
  • Cross-connector trends are not part of the default UI.
  • Top-N user or top-N action queries require SQL or a custom report.
  • Time-series volume is not available without a third-party export.
  • Multisite networks see no built-in cross-site activity overview.

SleekView Charts

  • Charts run on wp_stream with the wp_stream_meta join handled automatically.
  • Group by connector, action, user_id, IP, or any context key.
  • Global filters carry through every card on the dashboard.
  • Network admins build cross-site dashboards from the same source.
  • Saved layouts scope per role for ops, security, or super-admin views.

Features

What SleekView Charts gives you for Stream

Connector and user mix

Pie and Bar cards aggregate the records Stream already writes. Connector share, top users, and action breakdowns all live on one screen.

Network-wide scoping

Filter the dashboard by site, connector, or action on multisite. Per-site admins see their slice; network admins see the rollup.

Time-series ready

Area and Line cards group by created date, with daily and hourly buckets that map cleanly to deploys, releases, or incident windows.

Audience

Who builds Stream charts dashboards with SleekView

Security ops

Watch connector mix and user activity for anomalies. A sudden spike in the Plugins or Themes connector reads as an obvious chart, not a buried row.

Multisite network admins

Aggregate Stream activity across the network. Site-level admins see their slice while network admins see the network-wide totals.

Developer teams

Track deploy-day volume, count config changes per release, and visualise automation actor activity against human user activity in one dashboard.

The bigger picture

Why connector data deserves an aggregate surface

Stream's strength is breadth. It writes every event across every connector to the same two tables, which is exactly the data shape a dashboard needs. The default records list, designed for searching, hides that aggregate story.

A connector-mix Pie and a daily-volume Area answer questions a team should be able to glance at, not chase. SleekView Charts treats Stream's tables as the data warehouse they already are, and the result is a one-screen view that scales from one site to a network without adding storage or sync complexity.

Questions

Common questions about SleekView Charts for Stream

Yes. Custom connectors write to the same wp_stream and wp_stream_meta tables, so their records appear in the charts automatically alongside the built-in ones.

Yes. Promote any key from wp_stream_meta through the SleekView join and it becomes available as a groupBy axis for any chart card.

Yes. Network admins build cross-site dashboards while per-site admins see only their own data. The capability checks Stream defines carry through.

No. Charts are read-only against the Stream tables. The records pipeline is untouched and the audit chain remains intact.

Stream prunes older rows based on its retention setting. Charts reflect whatever currently lives in the table, so retention policy directly shapes how far back time-series cards can look.

If another plugin writes to its own table, build a separate SleekView for it and place its charts beside Stream's. Cross-source joins beyond Stream's own tables are not automatic.

Aggregations are server-side and use Stream's indexes on connector, user_id, and created. The dashboard never tries to load raw rows for aggregation.

Yes. Each card supports CSV export of its aggregated values, and the underlying SleekView grid is one click away for row-level evidence.
