SleekView Charts for Yoast News SEO

SleekView Charts reads the Yoast News SEO postmeta keys and the wp_yoast_indexable rows for news articles, then renders sitemap inclusion, genres, stock tickers and 48-hour news velocity as Number, Pie, Bar and Area cards.

SleekView Charts dashboard for Yoast News SEO

Yoast emits the news sitemap. Nobody charts what is in it.

Yoast News SEO is the Premium add-on that extends Yoast SEO with a Google News sitemap, news-specific schema, genre fields, stock-ticker tags and a per-post checkbox that excludes an article from the news sitemap. The data lives in postmeta keys like _yoast_wpseo_newssitemap-exclude, _yoast_wpseo_newssitemap-genre and _yoast_wpseo_newssitemap-stocktickers, alongside the standard wp_yoast_indexable row each article gets.

The default Yoast UI surfaces those fields inside the post editor and renders a sitemap at /news-sitemap.xml. There is no overview screen that answers questions like how many articles published in the last 48 hours actually qualify for the news sitemap, which genre tags are in active use across the desk, or whether stock-ticker coverage matches the topics the newsroom is meant to own.

SleekView Charts reads those keys directly and renders the newsroom view editors actually need: a Number card for articles eligible for the Google News sitemap right now, a Pie for genre mix, a Bar for stock-ticker coverage and an Area for publish cadence over the rolling news window.

Workflow

Turn news sitemap postmeta into a desk dashboard

1

Read the news fields

SleekView detects Yoast News SEO and lists every article with the news sitemap flag, the genre, the stock tickers and the indexable timestamps. Each row is one article in the news sitemap window.
2

Compose the chart cards

Drop in Number, Pie, Bar and Area cards. Group by newssitemap-exclude, newssitemap-genre, stocktickers or published_at, and aggregate as Count to size each segment.
3

Save the desk view

Name the dashboard (Newsroom 48h, Genre coverage, Markets desk) and gate it by role so news editors, SEO leads and section heads each see the slice they care about.
4

Share with the desk

Send a read-only URL to a managing editor or export the filtered article list to CSV for the daily standup. The sitemap stops being a black box and turns into a measurable surface.

Sample dashboard

Charts you can build from Yoast News SEO data

Each card below reads the news-sitemap postmeta keys Yoast News SEO writes alongside its indexable rows. Mix them for a 48-hour newsroom cockpit, a genre coverage audit or a markets-desk ticker view.
Number · Default

Articles eligible for news sitemap

Total articles published in the last 48 hours that are not excluded from the news sitemap. The single KPI for whether the desk is actually filling its Google News quota.
Count
Pie · Donut text

News articles by genre

Splits eligible articles by Yoast News genre (PressRelease, Satire, Blog, OpEd, UserGenerated). Surfaces whether the desk is leaning too hard on one tag.
Count group by newssitemap_genre
Bar · Horizontal

Stock tickers in active use

Articles grouped by stock-ticker tag from the markets desk. Confirms ticker coverage tracks the topics the newsroom is meant to own this quarter.
Count group by newssitemap_stocktickers
Area · Gradient

Articles published per hour

Time series of news-sitemap-eligible articles by publish hour over the rolling 48-hour window. Exposes the cadence dips that erode Top Stories visibility.
Count group by published_at

Comparison

Default Yoast News SEO settings vs SleekView Charts

Default Yoast News SEO settings

  • Sitemap fields live inside the post editor, one article at a time
  • No aggregate view of news-sitemap inclusion across recent articles
  • No visual split of genre tags or stock-ticker coverage
  • No time series of publish cadence inside the 48-hour news window
  • Editors cannot share a desk-level snapshot outside the WP admin

SleekView Charts

  • KPI card for articles eligible for the Google News sitemap right now
  • Pie split of news genres for desk balance audits
  • Bar of stock tickers in active use for the markets desk
  • Area trend of publish cadence inside the rolling news window
  • Filters carry between the news article table and the chart cards

Features

What SleekView Charts gives you for Yoast News SEO

Newsroom view, not a sitemap link

Render eligibility, genre, ticker and cadence as Number, Pie, Bar and Area cards. The desk gets a measurable picture instead of trusting a sitemap URL to behave.

Filters span table and chart

Filter to articles published in the last hour, missing a genre tag, or excluded from the sitemap, and both the cards and the article table stay in sync on the same dataset.

Share a desk-level snapshot

Send a managing editor a URL of the genre coverage dashboard or export the filtered article list to CSV for the morning standup. The sitemap stops being invisible.

Audience

Who builds Yoast News SEO charts dashboards with SleekView

News editors

Watch the 48-hour eligibility card and the publish-cadence trend, and catch a dip in news output before Google News notices and Top Stories ranking drops.

SEO leads at newsrooms

Audit genre and stock-ticker coverage against the topics the newsroom is meant to own, and rebalance section assignments based on a measurable picture.

Section heads

Filter the dashboard to one section (markets, politics, sports) and check whether the team is hitting its target cadence inside the news sitemap window.

The bigger picture

Why a newsroom needs a chart, not a sitemap link

Yoast News SEO is excellent at one job, emitting a Google News sitemap and the schema that goes with it. But sitemaps are a black box for the people who actually run a newsroom. An editor cannot tell from /news-sitemap.xml whether the desk shipped 14 eligible articles in the last 12 hours or 3, whether the genre mix matches the section plan, or whether the markets desk has stopped tagging tickers.

SleekView Charts reads the exact same postmeta keys Yoast writes and turns them into a desk view. A KPI for eligible articles, a pie for genre, a bar for tickers, an area for cadence. The plugin still owns the sitemap and the schema.

The dashboard just gives the newsroom a measurable surface above its own data, which is something the post editor sidebar cannot offer at the scale a news operation actually runs.

Questions

Common questions about SleekView Charts for Yoast News SEO

Only the Yoast News SEO postmeta keys (newssitemap-exclude, newssitemap-genre, newssitemap-stocktickers) and the standard wp_yoast_indexable row each article gets. No external Google News API access is involved, because Yoast News SEO itself does not call the News API.

Yoast News SEO requires Yoast SEO Premium to be active, because it is a Premium add-on. SleekView Charts reads the same data once Premium and the News SEO add-on are installed, regardless of license tier beyond that minimum.

Yes. Apply a published_at filter for the last 48 hours, which is the window Google News looks at, and every card recalculates on that subset. Editors typically pin the dashboard to the rolling window so the KPI always reflects what is actually in the news sitemap right now.

Yes. Add author and primary category as filters and the dashboard scopes to a single desk, a single editor or a single section. Useful for section heads who only want to see the markets or politics desk without scrolling past every other beat.

Yes. Genre is a single value per article and renders cleanly as a Pie. Stock tickers are a list field, and a Bar grouped by ticker counts each occurrence so a single article tagged with three tickers contributes to three buckets, which is the read newsroom editors actually want.

No. Yoast News SEO still owns the sitemap, the schema and the per-post fields. SleekView Charts gives the desk an aggregate surface that the post editor and the sitemap URL cannot offer, without touching how the sitemap itself is generated.

No. Queries hit indexed Yoast tables and only fetch the rolling window the dashboard is scoped to. Even sites publishing hundreds of articles a day stay responsive because the grid pages the underlying data and the cards aggregate on the server.

Yes. Click a card segment to filter the underlying news article table, then export the filtered set to CSV. Desks typically export the missing-genre list or the 48-hour eligibility list as a morning standup brief.
