SleekView Kanban for Envira Gallery Lite

Envira Gallery Lite stores galleries as envira custom posts with image data in postmeta, identical in shape to the Pro version. SleekView Kanban turns those posts into draggable cards grouped by post status so even Lite users get a full editorial workflow board.

SleekView Kanban board for Envira Gallery Lite

Group Lite galleries by post status

Envira Gallery Lite registers the same envira custom post type that the Pro version uses, with the image list stored in postmeta and the standard WordPress post_status column tracking draft, pending, future and publish. Everything a kanban board needs is already there in the free plugin.

The default Lite admin is a list table with thumbnails and a few sortable columns. It is fine for finding a single gallery but it does not surface the production pipeline. For a hobby site that is fine, but the moment a small studio or a small editorial team uses Lite seriously, the lack of a board view starts to slow things down.

SleekView Kanban turns the Lite library into a board. Lanes show counts, cards show the cover image, image count and last edited date, and dragging a card writes post_status back to WordPress through standard hooks. There is no need to upgrade to the Pro plugin just to get a workflow board.

Workflow

From Lite library to a board

1

Point at the envira post type

Choose the envira post type as the data source in the SleekView builder. Every existing Lite gallery is available immediately and new galleries created from the standard admin appear on the board as soon as the next refresh runs.
2

Group by post status

Pick post_status as the group-by column. The board renders Draft, Pending review, Scheduled and Published lanes, which gives a Lite install the editorial workflow view it does not get from the standard plugin admin out of the box.
3

Show the fields each card needs

Add cover image, image count, last edited date and any custom field the site uses. The card thumbnail uses the first image from the gallery, so cards stay visual even when the Published lane reaches several hundred galleries deep.
4

Drag to update status

Moving a card between status lanes writes post_status back through wp_update_post and fires the standard transition_post_status hooks. Caching, CDN purges and any notification plugin react exactly as they do from the standard post editor in any WordPress install.

Comparison

Default Envira Lite admin vs SleekView Kanban

Default Envira Lite admin

  • Flat list table mixes draft, pending and live galleries with no visual workflow cue.
  • Status changes require opening each gallery, changing the dropdown and saving.
  • Lite does not ship a workflow board, so editors track status in a spreadsheet.
  • No counts per stage, so a backlog of unselected galleries goes unnoticed.
  • Filtering by author or date needs URL parameters and never shows counts per filter.

SleekView Kanban

  • Works with the free Envira Lite plugin without requiring an upgrade to Pro.
  • Reads the envira post type directly with no sync or shadow tables.
  • Group by post_status or any author or date field on the gallery.
  • Drag and drop writes status back through wp_update_post and standard hooks.
  • Card thumbnails come from the first gallery image, so the board reads like a contact sheet.

Features

What SleekView Kanban gives you for Envira Gallery Lite

Contact sheet cards

Each Lite card uses the first image from the gallery as the thumbnail. The board reads like a contact sheet rather than a wall of titles, so a photographer scanning the Selects lane can see which galleries have a strong cover and which still need a hero shot.

Drag to change status

Moving a card between lanes writes post_status through wp_update_post and fires the standard hooks. There is no separate workflow table, no separate plugin and no extra database. The board is a window onto the same data the standard Lite admin already shows.

Author and date lanes

Group by post author and each lane becomes one photographer's queue. Group by month of upload and the board becomes a timeline. Lite users get the same flexibility as Pro users because the underlying post type is identical between the two versions.

Audience

Where Lite users get the most from kanban view

Small studios still on Lite

Independent photographers using Envira Lite to publish their portfolio gain a real editorial board without upgrading. Drafts, scheduled releases and the live archive are visible side by side, so the studio can plan a week of posts at a glance.

School and club galleries

Schools and clubs use Lite to publish event galleries. The board makes it obvious which events still need editing and which are scheduled for the school newsletter, with counts per status that make it easy to brief volunteer photographers.

Small editorial teams

Community newsrooms use Lite for photo essays. The board exposes the editorial pipeline from raw upload through review to publish, with filters by section that let one reporter focus on their own work without losing the editor's full view.

The bigger picture

Why Lite users benefit from a real board

The free Envira Lite plugin is widely used because it is fast and clean for publishing a single gallery, but it is also widely used in production beyond what it was designed for. Small studios, school photo teams, community newsrooms and hobbyist publishers run dozens or hundreds of galleries through Lite, and the default admin starts to creak under that volume. A list table is fine for finding one gallery by name but it does not show the editorial pipeline at all.

Teams end up tracking status in a separate spreadsheet that drifts out of sync the moment a gallery is published from WordPress. SleekView Kanban makes that pipeline visible without requiring an upgrade to Envira Pro. Cards are real Lite galleries.

Lanes are real post status values, real author terms or real date fields. Drag and drop writes the status change back through the same hooks core uses, so caching, CDN purges and notification plugins all react as they would normally. Counts per lane expose backlogs immediately, and filters layered on top of the board let a single contributor focus on their own work without losing the shared library underneath.

The free plugin keeps publishing the galleries beautifully, and the board makes the workflow finally visible.

Questions

Common questions about SleekView Kanban for Envira Gallery Lite

It works with Envira Lite. The envira post type is identical between Lite and Pro, so SleekView reads it the same way in both. If you later upgrade to Pro, existing boards continue to work and gain access to Pro-only fields like albums and tags as group-by columns.

SleekView calls wp_publish_post, which flips post_status to publish and clears the scheduled date. The same hooks fire that the standard Lite post editor publish flow uses, so caching and CDN purge plugins react exactly as they do for any other WordPress post.

Yes. The group-by column can be the post author, the upload month or any custom field on the gallery. Pro-only fields like the album taxonomy are not available on Lite, but any standard WordPress field works exactly the same on both versions of the plugin.

Yes. SleekView reads the first image from the gallery on each board render. Reordering images in the Lite editor changes the card thumbnail on the next refresh. A featured image set on the post takes precedence if both are configured.

Yes. A shortcode and a block render any saved board on the front end. Scope the board to a client tag or post author and disable drag, so the client sees a read-only progress view while the studio keeps full edit access in the admin.

Yes. SleekView honours the standard edit_post and publish_posts checks core uses. A contributor can move their own draft to Pending review but cannot drag a card to Live unless their role has the matching capability assigned by an administrator.

Lanes paginate and lazy load card content as you scroll. The board only reads the fields needed for each card, not full gallery image lists, so even small hosting plans render the board quickly even with several hundred Lite galleries in the library.

Yes. Each board is a saved configuration with its own group-by, fields and filters. A studio production board grouped by post status can sit beside a contributor board grouped by author, both reading the same Lite galleries with no duplication of underlying data.
