Networked thought needs a networked share layer

Roam Research introduced a way of thinking that has shaped a generation of note-taking tools. Bidirectional links, block references and the daily notes page made networked thought a daily practice for tens of thousands of writers and researchers. The strength of the tool is internal: the graph belongs to the writer, the connections compound, the daily practice deepens. The weak spot, as with most outliner-style tools, is public publishing.

Roam offers a public share option, but the share previews on the public web have stayed minimal - title, sometimes a graph snippet, rarely brand-specific. Writers who want more control mirror Roam pages to WordPress and let WordPress own the public layer. The mirror process varies: some writers use a Roam-to-WP plugin, others use Roam's JSON export and a custom importer.

SleekPixel reads the synced page fields and renders a per-page share card. Page title, reference count, tags and last update bind into the template on save. The result is that public Roam pages share with the same care that went into their networking, instead of falling back to a flat homepage banner on every social channel.

Workflow

From Roam page to branded share card

1

Mirror Roam to WordPress

Use a Roam-to-WP plugin, a JSON export importer or a workflow tool. Each published page becomes a WordPress post.
2

Map page fields

Title, references, tags and last update sync to WordPress post meta and taxonomy. Reference count is the key network signal.
3

Design the page template

Slots for title, tags, reference count and last update, with a date-aware variant for daily notes.
4

Edit and share

Roam edits trigger sync, sync triggers WordPress save, SleekPixel renders the new share card automatically.

Output

A 1200 by 630 OG image rendered from a Roam page mirrored to WordPress: title, reference count, tags and last update in your brand colors.

Comparison

Default Roam share vs SleekPixel via WordPress

Default Roam public share

  • Default Roam public shares are minimal by design
  • Block references and reference counts never reach the share preview
  • Daily notes share with the same generic preview as evergreen pages
  • Manual per-page art is unrealistic for the volume Roam produces
  • Brand updates require redoing every page card by hand

SleekPixel

  • Per-page share cards from synced Roam fields
  • Reference count and tag context bind into template slots
  • Daily-notes variant for date-keyed pages
  • Bulk re-render every public page on template updates
  • Rendering stays inside WordPress on your own domain

Features

What SleekPixel gives you for Roam Research notes

Network-aware fields

Page title, reference count, tags and last update render from synced Roam pages. The share card reflects how connected the page is.

Daily-notes variant

Date-keyed Roam pages render with date emphasis, while evergreen topic pages get full brand polish through template logic.

Bulk-renderable

Brand refreshes trigger a single bulk re-render that updates every public page's share image without per-page work.

Use cases

Where Roam writers use SleekPixel

Public concept pages

Topic pages that accumulate references over time get cards showing the reference count and last update, signalling depth.

Daily notes archives

Date-keyed pages share with cards that include the date prominently, useful for readers following a daily thinking practice.

Networked essays

Essays that grow from networked notes share with cards that signal both the topic and the level of cross-referencing.

The bigger picture

Why Roam pages benefit from share-layer care

Roam users built a practice around the idea that thought becomes valuable when it is networked. The cost of writing a single page is low; the value comes from the connections that compound over months and years. The same logic applies to the public-facing layer.

A single share looks small, but the share images that pile up over a year of public Roam writing are how an audience comes to recognize the writer. With branded share images, the public face of a Roam graph becomes coherent and recognizable. Without them, every share looks like every other share, and the work that went into the network does not register at the share layer.

The second reason is that Roam pages often accumulate references over long stretches of time. A topic page might gain three or four new references each month for two years. SleekPixel can surface the current reference count on the share card, which signals to readers that the page is alive and growing.

That alone changes click-through and reader expectation in ways that flat previews cannot.

Questions

Common questions about SleekPixel for Roam Research notes

Most setups use Roam's JSON export run through a custom importer, or a third-party Roam-to-WP plugin. Some teams use workflow tools to push updates on edit. Once a Roam page lives as a WordPress post, SleekPixel handles the rest.

Reference counts at the page level sync as post meta and render on the card. Individual block references are usually flattened to the parent page during sync.

Yes. Daily notes sync as dated posts, and the template can detect the date pattern to apply a daily-notes variant. The date becomes the primary element on those cards.

Queries are computed inside Roam and do not survive the sync as live queries. Their results can be denormalized during sync if you want them to show on the share card.

Not directly. The graph view is a live visualization. A static representation could be rendered if the sync exports graph data, but most setups surface a reference count instead.

Roam's own public graphs are hosted on roamresearch.com URLs. SleekPixel works on the WordPress mirror, not on roamresearch.com URLs directly. The two are different publishing paths.

The WordPress mirror is independent once synced. Templates and rendered PNGs remain. Future edits would happen in the new tool with a fresh sync to WordPress.

Highlights from Readwise that land in Roam can be synced through to WordPress with the rest of the page. The share card renders from whatever post content and meta the sync produces.
